Travel tip
Although the U.S. dollar is widely accepted throughout
the Dominican Republic,
their national currency is the Dominican Republic Peso (DOP). ATMs on the island will provide the national currency.
VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort
Puerto Plata
The caramel-coloured beaches of Puerto Plata are among the best
in the Caribbean. Relax on the sand or explore the waters up close
by catamaran or on a snorkelling tour. Visit Isabel de Torres National Park and take the Caribbean’s only cable car to the summit – watch for exotic birds on the way to the top and enjoy the amazing view when you get there. There’s so much to do and see here. Day trips to surrounding villages are a must; to explore colourful markets and discover the history of a destination Christopher Columbus once called home.
Samana
This slender peninsula on the northeastern Dominican coast is favoured by independent travellers seeking unspoiled golden beaches and a pristine tropical environment. Much of the land is wild and undeveloped, with tiny, colourful villages dotting the countryside and fishing outposts by the coast. Accommodations range from small, independent hotels to a few all-inclusive resorts. Local life is unaffected, laid-back and very much in touch with nature. There’s so much to enjoy and absolutely no need to hurry. Samana will leave you revitalized in mind, body and soul.
