Riviera Maya
Mayan Ruins
If you’re a history buff you know about the Mayan ruins. It’s been
many centuries since these ancient cities were occupied, but their magnificence and intrigue live on. Chichen Itza is the most famous of the ruins and is named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It’s well preserved and is truly a sight to behold. You’ll also want to visit
Tulum, the second-biggest Mayan ruin in Riviera Maya – its stunning cliff-top setting overlooking the Caribbean Sea is breathtaking and makes for great photos. And don’t miss Coba, where you can climb the 42 metre Nohoch Mul pyramid for a view of the jungle that’ll make you feel like a true explorer.
Xcaret
Looking for the best of Mexico, all in one place? Check out Xcaret (pronounced esh-ka-ret). Xcaret is a spectacular eco-archaeological park nestled between the sea and the lush tropical jungle of Riviera Maya. Discover one of the most popular attractions: snorkelling the underground system of rivers and caves. Or walk the Tropical Jungle Trail and enjoy seeing more than 100 species of exotic plants. Wander through a living museum of orchids and spend time at a coral reef aquarium, butterfly pavilion or wildlife farm. And don’t forget to check out a few archaeological sites. Xcaret is an all-day excursion with an amazing evening show.
